Becoming a Salesian Sister...
Where do I begin?

Accompaniment Programme

The first step on the journey is the Accompaniment Programme where a Sister would guide you to think and pray about different types of call, and whether you are being called by God to live as a Salesian Sister. This programme would last between 12 and 18 months.

Community Experience

Community Experience is the next step. During this time you would continue to work or study while living in one of our Communities, sharing in our daily life of prayer and work with young people and getting to know us better. We would get to know you better too!

Postulancy

If you wish to continue on the journey, the next stage is a time of deeper commitment and apostolic activity. (You may have heard this called Postulancy which just means asking to find out more) During these 10 months you will experience different types of apostolate and learn much more about living as a Salesian. You will also learn Italian which will help you in the next step.

Novitiate

Novitiate comes next. Our Novitiate is an international experience in Rome with young women from different parts of the Salesian world. Novitiate lasts for two years during which time you will study more about our vowed way of life and have an opportunity pray and discern at a deeper level.

First Profession

At the end of these two years you can ask to make Vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience for one year and begin life as Temporary Professed Sister.
During the next six years or so you will continue to deepen your relationship with God and learn even more about being a Salesian Sister, renewing your vows each year and deepening your understanding of them. You will discover gifts and talents you never imagined you had and you will be given the opportunity to use them!

Final Vows

After this period of Temporary Profession, you have the opportunity to make your Vows forever.
As you can see this is a long journey with lots of help along the way...but the journey of “learning and becoming” never really ends...until we meet God face to face!
