Playground Games

Racing Games

Choose a leader. All other players stand on a line about 15 metres away. The leader shouts out a sum e.g. ‘2 x 4’. If the answer to the sum is even then the players run across to the game leader and back again. The last person back to the line is out. If the answer to the sum is odd t

hen players must stand still. If anyone moves or runs forward they are out.

Chasing Games

One player is named the 'cat' and another the mouse. All the other players squat out of the game. The cat then chases the mouse. The mouse can touch another player who is crouching down they then become the CAT and the previous cat becomes the mouse! Great for good co ordination and quick thinking.

Co operation Games

This game requires a large space and one beanbag per person.

Explain to the participants that they must each walk around the room while keeping a

beanbag on their head. If the beanbag falls off, the person is not allowed to move – they

become a ‘statue’ until another person picks up the beanbag and puts it back on top of the ‘statue’s’ head. If the helper’s beanbag falls, they too become a ‘statue’ until another

person helps.

The aim is for as many people to be moving around for as long as possible.

Ask the participants:

• How can we increase the time during which we are all moving?

• What did it feel like to help others?

• What did it feel like to be helped?
